The total number of startups listed in the country was established at 72,993 on June 30, the Minister of State for Trade and Industry SOM Parkksh told parliament on July 20.
As of June 30, Maharashtra has the most startups, 13,519, followed by 8,881 Karnataka and 8,636 Delhi.
The total number of people employed by startups on June 30 is 7,67,754, sharing ministers.

Once again, Maharashtra took the top of the employment chart with his figure standing at 1,46,132 followed by Karnataka (1,03,541) and Delhi (87,643).
Parkksh also mentioned several steps taken by the government to promote startups throughout the country, which included the Indian Startup action plan launched in 2016.
Other steps include allowing startups to end within 90 days versus 180 days for other companies.
In addition, startups entered on or after April 1, 2016 can apply to the release of income tax for three years in a row from 10 years since the establishment.
The latest size, startup India Seed Fund (SISFS), aims to provide financial assistance to startups for evidence of concepts, prototype development, product trials, market entry, and commercialization. A number of RS 945 Crore have been approved under SISFS for four years starting from 2021-22.
