Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted the struggle, fortitude, and determination of athletes who were bound by the Commonwealth Games in a mild heart’s interaction because he urged them to forget their hopes and focus only to give the best at Multi-Sports Birmingham.
Among other things, PM spoke to 3000m Steeplechaser Avinash Sable, Achinta Sheuli weightlifting, female hockey player Salima Tete, a cyclist David Beckham and Sharmila Putter Shot during the Virtual Interactive Session. Aware of the back of them, Modi asks how athletes overcome obstacles in their lives.

“I joined the Indian Army in 2012 and carried out a normal assignment for four years. After that I took athletics. The army training was difficult and a tough Siachan glacier posting helped me a lot during the competition,” Sable said.
“In my event there were many obstacles, we had to jump over obstacles similar to how Army training such as crawling.”
This interaction was also attended by people such as PV Sindhu Olympic medalist, Savita Punia Women’s Hockey goalkeeper, Rio Bronze Medalist, Sakshi Malik, BCCI President Saurav Ganguly, Shiva Wapa and Sumit boxers, Shuttlers Kidambi Srkanth and Lakshyth.
CWG is scheduled to be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8 with a total of 215 Indian athletes participating in 141 events at 19 sports science disciplines.
